Landbou. Augsburg Landbougimnasium se landbou leerders is nie net gedurende oestyd en snoeityd betrokke by die wingerd nie. Die leerders is ook by talle ander bestuurspraktyke betrokke.
Hierdie week het hul wingerdvoorligter, Gert Engelbrecht , die leerders bietjie meer vertel hoe om wingerd ordentlik te suier. Gert het saam met Dirk de Bruyn van Cederberg Wyne vir die leerders al die nodige inligting en demonstrasies gegee. Sodoende kan hulle self die werk verder doen.
Wingerd word gesuier sodat die blaar-vrugverhouding reg kan wees. Al die oortollige blare en lote word afgebreek. Op hierdie manier is daar nou meer plantvoedingstowwe en water beskikbaar vir lote wat wel vrugte dra.
Die oes behoort ook meer egalig ryp te word as gevolg van beter deurlugting en meer sonlig.
Agriculture. Augsburg Agricultural Gymnasium’s learners are not only involved in the vineyard during harvest time and pruning time. The learners are also involved in many other management practices.
This week their vineyard counsellor, Gert Engelbrecht, told learners a bit more about how to properly suck vineyard. Gert, together with Dirk de Bruyn of Cederberg Wines, also gave the learners all the necessary information and demonstrations. In doing so, they themselves can do the work further. Vine is sucked so that the leaf-fruit ratio can also be right. All excess leaves and shoots are also broken off. In this way, there are now more plant nutrients and water available for shoots that do bear fruit.
The crop should also ripen more evenly due to better aeration and more sunlight.
