Bea Breedt, Grade 11 learner from Ermelo High School, competed in the SA Amateur Golf Championship from 19 to 24 February. The championship took place at the Mount Edgecombe Country Club in Durban. The leading amateur golfers in the country battled each other to be crowned the best in South Africa.
The tournament also takes place over three rounds of stroke play after which the top 64 players qualify for the knockout rounds. After that, the game also changes to the “match play” format. Out of 92 ladies’ players, Bea finished in twenty-ninth place and thus also qualified for the knockout rounds. She unfortunately got stuck in the first round and lost her match 2 and 1.
It’s not every day that a high school student can compete with the best in the country. Congratulations, Bea. Ermelo High School is extremely proud of you and looks forward with anticipation to what this year’s golf season will bring.
