Paul Roos athletes – shines at Twizza Super School National finals

Paul Roos athletes. Paul Roos Gymnasium Stellenbosch athletes, Joshua Acker, Reinhardt Nel, Musahdiq Cornelson, Zak Hickman and John-Oliver Klynsmith all finished with podium places on the day. The PRG team finished in 14th place, improving from their 19th place ranking at the end of 2021.

With 10 athletes recording or matching their PB’s, it was a great opportunity for the boys to measure themselves against the best teams in the country.

Despite some pouring rain and thunder overhead during the early part of the day, the weather cleared up nicely. The day saw some high-quality athletics performances from the men in maroon. To end of the day’s proceedings the U19 mixed relay team of Jurenzo Julius, Barthelemie Bena-Ntumba, Jonathan Essien and. Elisha Miller ran a great race, going toe to toe with eventual relay winners Midstream College and runners-up Tuks Sport’s School and finishing third in the strong final heat. Elisha held off a late charge from the chasing pack and the team finished fourth overall in this exciting new addition to the event.

Zak Hickman: Javelin – 42,95m; 511 points – Third Place for Boys U15; Shotput – 15,11m (PB); 843 points

Reinhardt Nel: Javelin – 45,36m; 554 points – Second Place for Boys U15; Shotput – 11,09m; 646 points

Jonathan Essien: 100m – 11,42s; 726 points; 400m – 50,44s (PB); 811 points

Barthelemie Bena-Ntumba: 100m – 10,94s (PB); 814 points; 200m – 22,33s (PB); 794 points

Elisha Miller: 200m – 23,41s (PB); 710 points; 400m – 51,75s; 767 points

Joshua Acker: Shotput – 18,94m; 985 points – First Place for Boys U17

Luke van der Merwe: High Jump – 1,85m (PB); 720 points; Long Jump – 5,33m; 396 points

John-Oliver Klynsmith – Best PRG athlete with 1703 points on the day: Shotput – 16,92m; 869 points – Second Place for Boys U19; Discus – 44,38m; 834 points
