Hoofseun 2023.
“My naam is Juan Venter.
Grootste uitdaging
Ek het my vriende gevra hoe hulle my sal beskryf. (Ek is baie lief vir al my vriende)
Motivering
My gunsteling onderwyser is Mnr George Engelbrecht, my eerstespan krieket afrigter.
Head Boy 2023
In our series on schools’ Head leaders, for next year, Schools That Rock talks to Juan Venter. Juan, Head Boy of Bastion High School for 2023, tells us more about himself and his leadership.
“My name is Juan Venter. I am currently a Grade 11 learner from Bastion High School. I really love sports. From primary school I lead my rugby teams from front. These qualities I just kind of transferred to high school. I was with Runé Etsebeth, Head Boy and Head Girl of Dr Havinga Primary School. In 2023, I went with the very Runé Etsebeth Head Boy and Head Girl of Bastion High School.
My personal goals for 2023 are to perform well academically. I also want to work hard with my first rugby team so that we can bring the cup home.
My goals for Bastion High School are to work with my fellow Head leaders to make a difference at our school. Then, by doing that, we’re going to bring back old traditions and start new healthier traditions. We want to make school fun for the learners in an appropriate way.
Biggest challenge
My biggest challenge as a learner of Bastion High School so far was to be the VLR Chairperson of 2022. I have had the privilege of representing our VLR in several areas. I also want to keep our school’s name high.
It is a privilege to be able to say that I am going to school at an Afrikaans school where our Christian values are important to us! This stands out the most to me at our school.
Without a doubt, I look up to Jesus for inspiration. He is my greatest inspiration and without Him nothing I do would have been possible. I am a God-fearing boy who tries my best to live according to His values.
If I had to be a kitchen item, I would love to be salt, because I always want to make life more fun and more tasty for people.
I asked my friends how they would describe me. Their feedback was: supportive, always encouraged, good sportsmanship, brighten everyone’s day by being joking, and hardworking. (I love all my friends very much).
Motivation
What motivates me to achieve my goals, is the fact that nothing is ever assured! It motivates me to keep working hard so that one day I will be successful.
I would advise learners to join Bastion for the following reasons: Bastion is one of few schools that is still Afrikaans. We perform everywhere. We are strong academically and our sport is excellent. With our culture performing nationwide, and then we win it too! We are a school full of opportunities and every learner matters to us!
My favourite teacher is Mr George Engelbrecht, my first-team cricket coach. He taught me many things in a short time and made a huge impact on my leadership qualities. He, like me, has a great love for sports and he is a hardworking man.
My future goal is to be an Electrical Engineer one day. It is my dream to one day be an Electrical Engineer for a Formula 1 team.
