Blood donator helpers.
There is a hero in all of us!
You are someone’s perfect match. That is the slogan that the newly appointed ‘Peer Promoters’ of Aliwal North High School go by. Of course, they aren’t talking about relationships, but instead they’re talking blood. Specifically, your blood and how it can save someone’s life.
Our country’s population is on the rise and so too is the demand for safe blood supply. On Wednesday the 23rd of January, six students from the school were trained on how to assist the South African National Blood Services on meeting those high demands. They play an integral part in the amount of blood donated every year around the country, as these ‘Peer Promoters’ help educate their peers on the importance of safe blood donation. They also recruit new donors and encourage people to become regular donors. They are essential in creating a future where being a regular healthy blood donor is the norm.
Aliwal North High School is also a proud host of multiple SANBS blood drives that occur during the year. The promoters are tasked with arranging the blood drive and ensuring that the function runs smoothly for everyone involved. These are all responsibilities that these students shoulder proudly.
Taking the time to donate blood for four minutes could potentially gift three people with the opportunity of living longer lives. So, with that said, the Aliwal North High School Peer Promoters are challenging you to become a blood donor and to become a promotor to your own peers because as we like to say, it’s not just about blood, it’s about life.
