Record breakers
On Saturday, 01 February, the annual Luncedo Circuit 2 Athletics meeting took place at Aliwal North High School. It was a very hot day that promised for some great athletics and it did not disappoint.
Eight records were broken on the day by athletes from ANHS. Ethan Du Plessis broke two records for boys u/15 100m and 200m which he ran in 11,60s (743 points) and 23,62s (721 points) respectively. Duran Sauer bettered the long jump record for boys u/16 with a distance of 5,99m. Ruan Esbach improved the 400m record for boys u/17 which he ran in 53,37s (733 points). The hurdle records were also under fire when Janco Labuscagnie and Philela Ngcangca (755 points) broke their respective age groups’ record with performances of 15,4s(110mH boys u/16 ; 783 points) and 15,69s(110mH men u/19 ; 755 points). The girls also raked in a few records when Marlinka Zurich threw the javelin a distance of 28,66m for girls u/14 and Monique Weitsz walked the 5000m for girls u/15 in 31:59,00s (842 points). Sixty-nine athletes qualified for the next meeting that will take place at ANHS on Saturday, 8 February.
