The First Team of Glenwood High School, Durban, had a very tough fixture against Hilton, away, on Wednesday (7 February 2018) afternoon. Again the side started slowly, missing chances and letting Hilton take the lead by capitalising on our errors and poor passing.
The boys tightened up the defences at half time and started putting pressure on the Hilton attack in the third chukka, but again, poor finishing was letting us down in front of goal. With the score 5-2 to Hilton going into the four chukka it seemed like they would hold on for the win.
But in true Glenwood style, the boys did not lie down. A superb team effort in the fourth chukka saw us score two unanswered goals from “Bullet” Mzimela and Devon Bull, bringing the score to 5-4 with less than a minute to play.
My man of the match has to be Devon Bull, who took control in the water after our captain was excluded in the third chukka. His determination on defence and accurate shooting resulted in him scoring the last goal to level the scores at 5-5 with 17 seconds left to play. The team showed tremendous heart and must be commended for their never say die attitude.
the stalemate, I left Hilton a very proud coach. Thank you to Hilton for hosting us on Wednesday afternoon, the supporters drumming and war cries really made it a great atmosphere to play in. I look forward to the rematch later this year.
