The St Charles College 1st XI played host to a strong Northwood team who performed admirably at the recent Grey College Festival. Northwood won the toss and put the home side into bat on a wicket which showed lots of cracks after a scorching hot week. It was slow going for the batsman for most of their 60 overs, until a flurry of runs at the death saw them amass a respectable total of 230 after their allotted 60 overs.
Humphrey van der Merwe top scored for the hosts with a well played 51, he was well supported by Clive Madande who scored 41. Â It was a classy and mature batting performance which wore down the Northwood bowlers. It was then over to the Saints bowling attack, and a magnificent one handed diving catch by Clive Madande set the tone for a brilliant display of attacking bowling to bowl Northwood out for 77, beating off the overs, time and rain.
Keegan Crawford led the attack taking 4 for 12 in 10 tight overs. St Charles College should be rightly proud of this performance. They have nailed their intentions down as a force to be reckoned with and will look forward to hosting Michaelhouse on the weekend.
