Old Girl, Cailin Rabie (Matrix 2015) was born in Johannesburg and attended St Andrew’s School for Girls. Cailin started playing saxophone when she was 9 years old, and music has always been one of her biggest passions. Cailin is currently studying a BMus degree at the University of Stellenbosch and is in her fourth and final year, and is specialising in saxophone performance under the tutelage of Liam Burden. Cailin also plays the alto saxophone in the Stellenbosch University’s Symphonic Wind Band, Jazz Band and Saxophone Quartet. She recently participated in the collaboration with the Online World Saxophone Orchestra, performing ‘What a Wonderful World’ with 52 other musicians from 20 countries around the world; sharing their message of encouraging others to “stay united and create as much art as you possibly can!”
She has also been awarded a membership for the International Golden Key Society for her academics for the past four years of her studies. After Cailin graduates, she is hoping to do a postgraduate degree, alongside performing and part-time teaching.
