Schools That Rock asked a few questions to Thandiswa Dlamini, Head Girl of Pretoria High School for Girls.
Question: What do you look forward to most when the 2021 school year starts? I look forward to seeing all the learners, as well as the optimistic faces of the new Grade 8s, and just being able to step onto the beautiful school grounds again. I look forward to all the fun activities, heartfelt discussions, laughs and to forming deep relationships with my peers and teachers for the last time. I look forward to being able to lead and help others in making 2021 the best year that it can be.
Question: Are there any changes or adjustments you would like to see happen at PHSG? I would like to ensure that there is inclusivity and empowerment for all in the school as well as ensuring that more learners have a greater pride for PHSG. I would like to create a comfortable, safe space within the school where open dialogue, regarding any issues and solutions, can take place.
Question: If you had to make a statement to convince someone that your school is the right choice, what would that statement be? Pretoria High School for Girls is one of the most diverse schools filled with an abundance of opportunities to self-discover while obtaining the necessary skills to certainly prosper in the future.
Question: Who would you consider to be your role model at your school? I am honestly unable to point to one specific person as a role model. I would say I’m inspired by the other Girls High girls who I see working hard to achieve what they set their mind to, and who are able to be authentic, no matter what barriers hold them back.
Question: Which sport activity offered at your school is your favourite? Definitely Cross-Country.
Question: What is your favourite meal? I am in hostel and dinner is definitely my favourite meal.
Question: Which career choices are you considering after school? I would love to study Medicine after school.
Question: Which university do you want to attend next year? I would love to go to TUKS.
Question: Do you have a message for your fellow pupils for 2021? I would encourage everyone to continue being their true selves in all spaces this year and to never stop being ambitious because there are so many opportunities waiting for you. I would like everyone to have loads of fun and unapologetically be themselves.
