School Hockey open weekend. Kearsney College produced a commanding 7–2 victory over Glenwood High School during the hosts’ Open Weekend, in a match that was far more competitive than the final scoreline suggests.
The game opened at a blistering pace, with both sides creating early chances. By the end of the first chukka, the teams were level at 1–1. Glenwood applied sustained pressure, disrupting Kearsney’s structures and limiting their ability to clear effectively or build play through midfield.
By half-time, Kearsney had edged ahead 3–1, though Glenwood’s sharp 1-on-1 skills and attacking intent ensured the contest remained finely balanced.
As the match progressed, Kearsney began to settle into rhythm. Their ball movement grew more fluent, enabling greater control and consistency in attack. This translated into opportunities both from open play and well-executed short corners.
In the second half, the hosts pulled away decisively, adding further goals to secure a 7–2 win. Their attacking display showcased variety, with both well-worked field goals and clinical short-corner conversions.
Overall, it was a strong attacking performance from Kearsney, coupled with valuable lessons in handling pressure and executing basics under duress. Glenwood deserves credit for a spirited and competitive challenge that tested the hosts throughout.
