Paul Roos turning 157. On the 1st of March 2023, Paul Roos Gymnasium turns 157 years old. The birthday week also kicks off with a special assembly. Old boy and writer, Pieter du Toit, will be addressing Paul Roos learners. The program also includes a wreath-laying at the memorial stone of Paul Roos founding members. Learners annually also visit Paul Roos and his family’s gravestones. There they also pay their respects, clean and maintain the graves.Â
On Friday, 3 March, the first Tiger Wheel & Tyre PRG Kaskar Fundracer will take place. Paul Roos register classes will race against each other in aid of the Sponsor-a-Paul-Rooser fund. This fund ensures top-class education and infrastructure for all its learners – who come from all walks of life. The initiative is also supported by local businesses. As is tradition – the Paul Roos birthday week ends off with the PRG Birthday Ball. This is attended by Paul Roos’ seniors (Gr. 10-12) and an absolute highlight of the week.
Paul Roos’ social club, Club 1000, is also hosting its annual Potjiekos competition at Markötter Sports Complex on Saturday, 4 March. Teams of four are invited to enter and make their special recipes at R200 a team (which includes four meal tickets). Those who want to join in the fun and taste the various potjies can also buy tickets at R150 per person. Club 1000 profits are allocated towards designated Paul Roos building projects.
