NHS – Lentsa Motau with Lihawu pupils.

For more than a decade Hoërskool Nelspruit has achieved a 100% matric pass rate. The school prides itself on this achievement and aspires to assist other schools in Ehlanzeni to reach their academic goals as well.

NHS started the Nellies Care outreach programme in order for the school to share their knowledge, skills, time and facilities to uplift and empower our community and province. Nellies Care is involved in a number of ongoing projects with motivational talks being just one aspect of the program. The first motivational talks were recently presented to the following schools in the district to encourage and uplift matric pupils before the upcoming Record Exam: Thembeka Secondary School, Lihawu Secondary School, Mthombo Secondary School and Sabane Secondary School.

Lentsa Motau, past pupil of Hoërskool Nelspruit, shared her own personal story from her high school days where she finished with good results in Matric. She also spoke about how she went on to study at university and completed her degree in Marketing. Motau further elaborated about how she’s now working as a coach and marketer, while still playing professional Netball. She encouraged the matrics to set goals, manage their time well and work out a study program.

“You will only reach your full potential if you work hard. Through hard work, commitment and determination nothing can prevent you from achieving your full potential and your dreams”, said Motau. With these motivational talks we want to inspire learners and tell them that it can be done regardless of their background or the school that they attend. We also seek to build long lasting relationships with fellow teachers and pupils in the Ehlanzeni district.

Nelspruit High School would like to invite businesses and schools that would like to be part of the Nellies Care initiative to make contact with them. Working together with the circuit office they would not only like to help empower learners but also their educators, as well as principals with methods, systems and tips to improve education in Ehlanzeni.
