Matric Class 2022. Sutherland High School matric learners once again produced outstanding matric results. Congratulations to the Class of 2022 who achieved 356 distinctions and also an 89.2% Bachelors pass rate.
Incredible tenacity has been shown by the Matric class of 2022. They have worked exceptionally hard to overcome the challenges COVID-19 placed upon them.
Last year started off with uncertainty as to how the impact of COVID-19 would transpire. Sutherland is pleased with the commitment their learners, staff and as well as parents have displayed to ensure we obtained the best results.
Mrs Yolande van der Merwe, the Head of Academics, said “Both learners and teachers had to work very hard throughout the year to achieve their goals. It is through determination that learners achieved academic success. A relationship of trust between parents, teachers and learners played an important role.”
Mr Stone
Steadfast support has also be shown by Mr Stone, The Principal. He returned to the classroom to teach last year. He has been able to further establish his connection to the learners, instilling the importance of how completing daily tasks such as homework, studying and reading by each learner, continues to be important aspects when preparing for exams and reaching goals.
The school thank all the parents who have provided the support to their children. “Our school is extremely fortunate to have a PTLA and SGB Committee who are committed to ensuring that our school grows from strength to strength.”
While academic focus is important, learners must have a means to expel excess energy. Sutherland was very grateful to have a full return to sporting activities in 2022. It also included hosting the B-Bond Athletics in February. “Thank you to our facilities team who ensure our sports facilities and school grounds are maintained to outstanding levels which our learners are able to enjoy.”
The school also thank their Culture Department for the Children’s Theatre Production and for the fantastic results at the GRADS Festival. Creativity is intelligence having fun.
Leadership programmes
The School of Leadership also resumed full camp and academy activities. Learners who participate leadership programmes gain extensive teaching on important matters. It include matters such as self-confidence, personal development, problem solving skills and commitment to re-evaluating and reaching goals. These skills are vital when moving into tertiary studies and career paths.
The youth of today are exposed to societal challenges that impact them deeply. Sutherland is thankful to the staff. They work with the learners to encourage behavioural transformations by means of positive re-enforcement. Staff appreciate the efforts learners make to embrace changes. It enables them to provide more effective teaching and better teacher/learner liaison when these positive changes are made.
Sutherland High School remains committed to being the school of choice and will continue to make every effort to ensure each learner has the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.
The learners strive for the stars. From the moment you enter the school grounds, the enthusiasm of the learners and staff can be sensed.
Sutherland High School. Ad Astra.
