Grahamstown, South Africa – The Diocesan School for Girls Makhanda is celebrating an extraordinary achievement as one of its own, Lucy Holderness, earns national recognition for her hockey prowess. Lucy dazzled spectators and selectors alike at the Interprovincial Hockey Tournament held in Hilton from 8–13 July, where her exceptional performance earned her the coveted title of Midfielder of the Tournament.
Her Eastern Province U16 team delivered a strong showing as well, clinching second place and proudly returning home with silver medals – a testament to teamwork, grit, and Lucy’s leadership on the field.
The ultimate highlight? Lucy has now been selected to represent South Africa in the U16A national hockey team – a remarkable honour that places her among the country’s most promising young athletes.
Lucy’s dedication, talent, and sportsmanship have made her a role model for peers and younger players alike. Her school community is bursting with pride, cheering her on as she steps onto the national stage.
