IDO World Championships. Rising Ballet Star Zara Yazbek Shines on International and Local Stages.
Fifteen-year-old ballet dancer Zara Yazbek is rapidly emerging as one of South Africa’s most promising young classical ballet talents. This follows a string of remarkable achievements both internationally and at home.
After earning her Western Province Colours for Dance and subsequently receiving her Protea Colours, Zara represented South Africa at the International Dance Organisation (IDO) World Championships in De Panne, Belgium. Competing as part of the national dance team, she delivered outstanding performances. It secured three World Championship titles in Classical Ballet Solo, Junior Repertoire Solo, and Ballet Duo.
Alice in Alice in Wonderland
On the local stage, Zara recently also captivated audiences as Young Alice in Alice in Wonderland. This was with Cape Town City Ballet at the Artscape Theatre. She will next appear with Cape Ballet Africa in The Nutcracker, running at Artscape from 25–28 February 2026.
Her artistic reach extends beyond the stage. Zara has been cast in an upcoming Netflix film. The project is scheduled for release in 2026, further showcasing her versatility as a multidisciplinary performer.
Zara’s journey began at the age of three at the Juanita Yazbek Dance Academy. There she continues to train in ballet and contemporary dance. Her repertoire spans ballet, musical theatre, and drama. including the title role in Matilda on international tours of China and the Philippines. She has also appeared on the Expresso Morning Show, adding to her growing public profile.
Now a Grade 10 learner at Camps Bay High School, Zara balances her academic life with intensive training at the Juanita Yazbek Dance Academy and Cape Junior Ballet.

As she continues to build her international profile, Zara Yazbek remains deeply connected to South Africa’s performing arts community, with a career trajectory that points toward an exciting and inspiring future.
