Hoërskool Nelspruit’s grade eights started off the year with an outreach initiative after less than a week of high school. Each class chose an organisation at which they spent a morning doing community service.
The beneficiaries included old age homes, orphanages, needy schools and animal welfare organisations such as the SPCA, Pro Gratia school, St. Peter’s school, NG Moedergemeente, Pro Life Pet Rescue, Betty’s Haven and Rubicon old age home.
Learners assisted these organisations with painting, cooking, gardening and socializing with resources collected throughout their first week of school.
Through ongoing initiatives like this, the school aims to create a culture of community service among learners. Hoërskool Nelspruit is a school for the community, built by the community and in turn would like to reach out to those in need.
Under the umbrella of the Nellies Care outreach program, the school aims to build bridges and not walls, working towards building a better South Africa for everyone.
Nellies Care would like to share our knowledge, skills, time and facilities in order to uplift and empower our community, province and country – one outreach at a time.
