Helpagirlout. On the 23rd of October Thlolohelo Smouse, a Grade 9 learner at ANHS, launched the #HELPAGIRLOUT project. It is an initiative that seeks to empower young girls. Tholohelo was inspired by her parents’ upbringing which proved that you have the power to change your life. Humble beginnings can lead to an amazing life. She feels that girls today are subjected to societal stereotypes. Often girls do not believe that they are capable of being successful or able to stand up for causes they believe in. With this initiative Tholohelo wants girls to know that they are powerful. They should not allow others to dim their light.
The event was held at the Limakatso Entertainment centre. Four talented guest speakers addressed a group of girls from surrounding schools. The subject matter stretched from Gender Based Violence, Substance Abuse to what it means to be a girl and how to see your worth within society. Each girl received a care package. The event would not have been possible if it was not for the sponsors who made various contributions. Tholohelo says that she is humbled by their gesture of Ubuntu.
#HELPAGIRLOUT is a continuous program in order to empower young girls. We would like to congratulate Tholohelo Smouse for showing her kindness towards others and at such a tender age! We are excited to see what other life changing projects she will conjure up. Tholohelo would like to extend her gratitude to the schools for availing their learners, the sponsors, guest speakers and all the organisers.
