Curro Roodeplaat. In our series on schools’ head leaders for 2023, Schools That Rock chat to Myralene Fourie. Myralene, Head Girl of Curro Roodeplaat High School for 2023, tells us more about herself and her leadership.
“I am very determined and disciplined. If I have a goal, I’ll work hard to achieve it. In this way I usually inspire people to also have that discipline.
My personal goal for next year is to work on my organisational and planning skills. A goal I have for my term of service is to encourage more school spirit, as this will unite the school and have a positive overall effect on students’ mentality.
Just like any other student would say: time management is my biggest challenge. It becomes hard to balance your school responsibilities and personal life without the proper planning. Therefore, I chose my specific personal goal.
What stands out
I have noticed what stands out most at Curro Roodeplaat, is the mindset of the students. It plays a big role in the school spirit and motivation levels. When the students’ mindset is positive, it has a positive effect on these aspects.
My cousin was Head Girl of her school. She is my inspiration and since my election as a head prefect of my school, she has also offered to mentor where needed. I would also like to acknowledge our two prefect teachers, Mrs Angeline Diamond and Mrs Leone du Preez. Their energy and enthusiasm is really inspiring to all the prefects.
If I was a kitchen article, I would have been a toaster. I can turn something that is bland and average, into a masterpiece.
My friends describe me as: Caring, loving, determined and trustworthy. Loving friend who always makes time for people you care about. Nothing is ever too much for you – you don’t complain easily – and it is very motivating.
I want to create my best self and be successful, so this internal drive motivates me to accomplish my goals.
Good academic performance
I would advise learners to also become part of Curro Roodeplaat for the good spirit. Participation can also be related to good academic performance. When learners are involved in a school, regarding sports and/or culture activities, their academics usually improve. It also helps with a positive mindset which serves as motivation that helps with achieving goals.
I do not have a spicific fovourite teacher. I love and respect all my teachers. Due to their time and effort I have been able to stay motivated and educated throughout my school career.
My future goals? I am working towards becoming a medical doctor. Studying medicine is one of my goals and then specialising in either Radiology or Cardiology.
