Curro Roodeplaat. In our series on schools’ head leaders for 2023, Schools That Rock chat to Mpho Rashokeng. Mpho, Head boy of Curro Roodeplaat High School for 2023, tells us more about himself and his leadership.
“The best way I would describe myself is curious. I enjoy the act of learning and gaining new understanding. My curiosity influences my leadership style in the sense that I will actively look for different ways to solve problems and gain a better understanding of situations.
My personal goal for next year is to grow and learn with my fellow leaders and to leave an impact on Curro Roodeplaat. Along with this, my goals for Curro Roodeplaat during my term of service is to facilitate a community where our students can be heard and are able to excel socially and academically.
Biggest Challenge
The biggest challenge I experienced as a learner of Curro Roodeplaat, would be getting lost in the routine of school. At the same time forgetting that there are more important things than distinctions.
What stands out most to me at Curro Roodeplaat are the students. We have the most unique and interesting characters in our school which makes school more enjoyable.
For inspiration or mentorship, I look up to a myriad of people, mainly my father. He has done the hard work to get to where he is. With the wisdom and opportunities he has offered me, I will achieve greatness.”
You’re a kitchen article? What are you and why? “I’m a knife. With my sharpened skills and reinforced mind, I can undoubtedly analyse and deconstruct anything put before me with unimaginable percision.
My friends would describe me as Intelligent, free spirited, short, funny and someone you can trust.
My dreams
What motivates me to achieve my goals, is my dream. My dream motivates me every day. Along with, I also know I can achieve it and I know what it takes and that’s enough motivation for me. I will do whatever it takes.
I would advise learners to also become part of Curro Roodeplaat because of the culture and the people. You will not find students and teachers like ours in any other school.
Ms. Angela Stone is my favourite teacher. Every time I enter her class I feel as if I learned something – no moment is wasted with her. She is willing to have discussions about any and everything and does so in a respectful and kind manner. I look at Ms Stone and learn not just what she’s teaching but also how to be a better person.
My future goals are to build a school and restructure the way people are taught. I also want to give people the correct tools and mindset to achieve greatness.”
