The first round of the Curro Halala Cup in the Free State concluded on Thursday, with young footballers demonstrating their talent during the final matches of round 1, hosted at Curro Bloemfontein. From sharp tactical play to impressive sportsmanship, the event celebrated skill and spirit. Schools across the province brought high tempo play and well-structured formations to the pitch. Despite the heat, no team held back, with each match fiercely contested and one decided by a penalty shoot-out.
Among the teams that kicked off the competition were Navalsig High School, Louis Botha Technical High School, Brebner High School, Calculus High School, Kyrios Independent School, and Grey College. Advancing to the knockout stage (Round 2) on Wednesday, 21 May, are:
- Navalsig High School vs Brebner High School – kick-off at 14:00
- Kyrios Independent School vs Grey College – kick-off at 15:30
Both fixtures will be streamed live on the SuperSport Schools streaming app.

The tournament was hosted and managed by Curro Bloemfontein, under the leadership of Executive Head Dr Mallory du Plooy, Head of Sport Sabata Masehle, and School Marketer, Keitumetse Letsoela. The Curro Halala Cup continues to grow as an exciting fixture on the school football calendar, providing a competitive platform for teams to test their skills and for individual players to develop their talent.
