On Saturday 19 May 2018 two hockey teams from Cradock High School played against Hangklip High School from Queenstown, the matches were earlier postponed as Hangklipās field was too wet.
The second team played first and was quickly behind by two goals to none. Yet CHSās backs never surrendered and averted wave upon wave of attack. After halftime CHS tightened the screws and started attacking ferociously. Unfortunately, a lack of finishing prevented various goals from being scored. The Hangklip team was clearly superior and won by 3 goals to none. CHS back players, Beatrice van Wyk, Jordan Delport, Natalie Page and Jardine van den Heever played their hearts out.
The first team allowed a quick goal against them before gritting their teeth and putting up a tremendous fight. After a number of attacks down the left wing, Marike Dannhauser rounded off with a goal to make the half time score one all.
In the second half both teams gave it everything they had, and good hockey was played.Ā Consistant pressure was put on both goal boxes, and only excellent defence prevented goals.
However, constant attack by CHS down the middle and the left wing resulted in a goal scored by Adri Henning. With only a few minutes left on the clock, CHS was awarded a penalty goal which Marike Dannhauser deposited safely into the goal box. The final whistle signalled a 3-1 win for CHS.
Marike Dannhauser played a real captainās game, assisted well by Adri Henning and Elanie de Wet.
