Rowing to Glory: Celebrating National Stars

Rowing. Saturday evening was a night to remember as St Alban’s College, Pretoria basked in the glow of national pride. St Alban’s honoured a phenomenal group of current and past students. They proudly earned their National Rowing Colours—a rare and prestigious honour that truly reflects their grit, passion, and outstanding performance at the National Selection Regatta this May

A Rising Star Sets Sail:

St Alban’s congratulate Ollaf Moeller (Form 4) on earning a spot on the U19 South African team! He is heading to Lithuania this August for the World Rowing Junior Championships. He’ll be competing in the junior men’s quad – a milestone that marks both his talent and tenacity.

Proud Alumni, Still Making Waves:

The school is equally thrilled to celebrate their Old Albanians who continue to fly the St Alban’s flag high:

  • Warrick Kyriazis (Class of 2024) joins Ollaf on the U19 team in the pair event.
  • Braden Howard (Class of 2023) secures a coveted spot on the U23 national team. He is taking on the single scull challenge with quiet determination.
  • Ehros Smith (Class of 2020), now rowing with Stellenbosch University, has qualified for the World University Games. It will be held in Germany this July. It is an incredible honour that showcases the diverse paths the rowers can take.

Leadership on the Global Stage:

St Alban’s especially proud that their very own Mr Andrew Grant, Director of Rowing. He will accompany the national squad as one of the official coaches.

Charting New Courses:

From school jetties to world championships, the rowers prove that excellence is more than – achievement, it’s a culture. These honours reflect the strength of their rowing program and the deep spirit of sportsmanship that flows through every stroke.
