Western Cape Short Course. Primary School swimming news: Making Waves at the Champs!
Two Grade 7 rising stars, Ben Jooste and Ryn Abrie, made a big splash at the Western Cape Short Course Championships 2025, held from 17–20 July.
🐬 Ryn Abrie’s Record-Breaking Backstroke
Ryn stunned spectators and coaches alike by delivering near-flawless personal bests across his races. Most jaw-dropping of all—he shaved a phenomenal 9.26 seconds off his 200m backstroke time! That kind of leap is incredibly rare at this level, proving Ryn’s not just in it for the swim… he’s racing toward greatness.
🏅 Ben Jooste’s National-Level Triumphs
Ben wasn’t far behind with multiple personal bests and a spectacular run into the finals of both the 200m and 100m backstroke events. But that’s not all—Ben qualified for South African Junior Nationals (age 13) in both distances. That’s an extraordinary accomplishment, and a sign of very big things to come!
Meeting a Legend: Chad le Clos
As if the weekend couldn’t get any better, the boys had the unforgettable chance to meet South African Olympic hero Chad le Clos! It was a moment that lit up their faces and will inspire their swims for seasons to come.
Curro is immensely proud of these young athletes who’ve shown that hard work, passion, and courage pay off. Here’s to the incredible journey ahead—may the lanes be fast and the dreams even faster!
