Western Cape Regional Expo. Five of Curro Hermanus High School learners obtained top results during the Western Cape Regional Expo earlier this year. They were invited to submit their projects for judging at the International Science Fair. The fair included participants from all provinces in South Africa as well as other countries in Africa. Once again, Curro participants managed to show their mettle. They have performed very well and obtained the following results:
Corné du Plessis: Silver in the category Earth Sciences. Corné compared the reliability of three weather applications with the real weather conditions measured in a specific area.
Emma Venter and Chevonne Erasmus: Gold in the category Environmental Studies: Sustainability. Emma and Chevonne improved on the design for a sleeping bag made from recycled plastic bags.
Raynier Erasmus: Gold Award in the category Engineering Science
Meiring Naude: Prize for the most inspiring project Technology Innovation Agency Award. The reward includes a bootcamp that will prepare learners to advance their innovations from idea to product development and new venture creation. Raynier improved the design for an inline variable sprocket for use on an automatic bicycle.
Ra’ees de Witt: Gold Award in the category Medical Sciences. The Central University of Technology Award Winner Scifest Africa Award Winner. Ra’ees did research to find the most optimum site for drug absorption in the human digestive tract to reduce the treatment time during illnesses.
