Kearsney College has once again proven its dominance in KwaZulu-Natal’s water polo scene. They are clinching the overall trophy at the annual Top 10 Tournament for the second consecutive year. The prestigious event, held over the weekend, brought together the province’s top water polo-playing schools in a thrilling showcase of talent, teamwork, and tenacity.

While each age group competed for its own title, Kearsney’s consistent excellence across all divisions earned them the coveted overall championship through a cumulative points system. This is a testament to the depth and strength of their water polo program.

Age Group Highlights

U14s – Runners-Up Kearsney’s youngest squad delivered an impressive run. They dominated their pool and semi-final matches before narrowly missing the title in a nail-biting final:

  • Pool victories: Clifton (9-4), Durban High School (12-5), Invitational Team (12-0), Northwood (7-2)
  • Semi-final: Beat Michaelhouse (9-4)
  • Final: Lost to Hilton (4-5)

U15s – 4th Place Finish The U15s showed grit and resilience, especially in their penalty shootout win over Michaelhouse, but fell short in the playoffs:

  • Pool results: Lost to Hilton College (7-14), beat Glenwood (13-6), edged Westville Boys’ Highon penalties (6-6), beat Durban High School (12-7)
  • Semi-final: Lost to Clifton (5-10)
  • 3rd/4th playoff: Lost to Northwood (4-5)

1st Team – Runners-Up Kearsney’s senior squad was a force throughout the tournament, sweeping their pool and edging Westville in a tense semi-final before falling to Clifton in the final:

  • Pool victories: Durban High School (14-8), Thomas More College (18-3), Michaelhouse (9-6), Northwood (9-6)
  • Semi-final: Beat Westville Boys’ High (6-5)
  • Final: Lost to Clifton (4-7)

Depth, Drive, and Dominance

Kearsney’s collective performance across all age groups showcased not only individual brilliance but also a culture of excellence and development. Their ability to field competitive teams at every level speaks volumes about the school’s commitment to the sport and its athletes.
