On Wednesday morning, 28 August, the learners at Union Preparatory School were treated to a children’s theatre piece, entitled ‘Galela’ by the Well Worn Theatre Company. This eco-theatre production gives commentary on not only the very obvious water crisis that the country is facing, but also on the terrible habits that lead to that.
Galela features the energetic physical theatre talents of Lerato Sefoloshe, Mlindeli Zondi and Tebogo Machaba, who tell the story of three best friends, bravely embarking on a project to make their town’s drinking water safe again. They soon discover, however, that they have waded into hot water and that the problems affecting the town dam are deeper and murkier than at first glance. Still determined to make a difference and to secure the future of their friends and family, the trio dive in to fix the mess, proving in spectacular fashion that children with the biggest imaginations will save the world.
The Galela team managed to create strong images of young children taking a stand against irresponsible adults and holding them accountable.
Union Prep School’s children were definitely enlightened and thoroughly entertained!
