Union High School’s Daly House claims the win

Union High School’s learners enjoyed their annual inter-house cross-country meet on Wednesday afternoon, 2 October).

The school is fortunate that our main sports facilities are bordered by beautiful surroundings that allow our cross-country runners easy access to a series of runs catering for all ages and abilities from our own doorstep.

This annual event, which is aimed at increasing participation in competitive sport, sees everyone taking part with a chance to win points for their House, in a competition that is both keenly contested but also fun.

All age groups ran separately and staff were impressed with the levels of enthusiasm, fitness and commitment to this event – all learners should be proud of their efforts.

After tallying all the points accrued by the respective athletes of Arnott House and Daly House, Daly House emerged the winner with 88 points to Arnott’s 84.

The winners of the respective races are as follows:

The Girls u/11 3km event saw Jemae Davids (13:52:820 come in first, followed by Amy Waddelow (13:54:45) in second place and Kimberly Menos (14:41:70) in third.

In the Boys u/11 3km event, Daniel Short (13:02:87) claimed the honours, followed by Neelon Fourie (13:04:20) in second and Josh Arends (13:05:20) in third place.

The Girls u/13 4km event saw Lisakhanya Menos (23:20:15) cross the finish line first, with Sisipho de Vos (23:45:47) coming in second and Kenza Neill (23:58:27) third.

In the Boys u/13 4km Alutha Wesi (18:47:15) finished first, followed by Camran Swartz (19:32:28) in second place and Dylan Kivedo (21:27:05) in third place.

Drew Dobinson (20:48:97) emerged as the winner of the Girls u/15 4km event, followed by Brigette Oelofsen (24:23:61) in second place and Tessa James and Alexander Imrie (29:09:51) in joint third.

The Boys u/15 6km event saw Siya Badiwe (28:17:07) claim the win, followed by Corniel Vorster (30:05:09) in second place and Ivan Murray (31:52:30) in third.

Sana du Plessis (20:30:67) won the Girls Open 4km event. She was followed by Micela Loock (24:25:30) and Donné Marais (24:25:30) and Jenna McNaughton (24:25:30) in joint second position.

In the afternoon’s final event, the Boys Open 8km race, Matthew Carelse (34:55:98) claimed the win, with Iviwe Ndamane (41:16:86) coming in second and Brett Amsterdam (47:23:47) third.
