Typing in the digital age – Stulting primary School

Typing in the digital age. To increase typing in the digital age, the Grade 3 learners of Stulting Primary school in Humansdorp are developing their typing skills during computer class this term. They are using a brand-new typing programme, which is a first for their group. This programme emphasizes touch-typing with correct finger positioning on the keys. The children love computers and were highly engaged during their typing lesson. They enjoy exploring new skills and activities on the computer, which enhances their enthusiasm for learning and improves their digital literacy from a young age.

Typing is an incredibly important skill to develop in children and often one that is forgotten or taken for granted. Children are so used to touch screens and swiping rather than using a physical keyboard that they can sometimes struggle when it comes to printed online tasks. Without confident typing skills, children struggle to complete online work, become disengaged easier and find accessing and being part of collaborative whole-class activities difficult. Technology can empower children’s learning, but we must first equip them with the necessary skills to make the most of the amazing tech tools we have available.

Typing Master is a comprehensive tool designed to enhance typing skills efficiently. At the end of each lesson, upon achieving 100% completion, it provides valuable feedback on speed, accuracy and overall progress. This feedback empowers learners by highlighting their strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring steady advancement in typing proficiency with each session.

We are incredibly excited and privileged to introduce these typing skills to our Grade 3 learners. Teaching them this essential skill opens up new avenues for their academic and personal growth. Witnessing their enthusiasm and progress as they master touch-typing techniques fills us with pride.

With each lesson, we will see them gain confidence and proficiency, equipping them not only for current educational tasks but also for future endeavours in a digital world. It is a privilege to guide them through this journey of learning and empowerment, knowing they are building skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

Avuma and Rebecca were the TypingMaster champions!
