Schools Hockey. Kearsney’s 1st XI hockey team hosted Clifton School on the Mason Astro on Saturday, 15 March. This was Kearsney’s first match of the season, while Clifton had already played one game.
It started with both teams being cautious and not taking many risks. Kearsney moved the ball well, however, and had several chances to score in the first 20 minutes. They finally broke the deadlock with a fantastic drag flick goal from Keegan de Jager. Just three minutes later, Kearsney scored again to take a 2-0 lead.
But Clifton fought back, scoring a goal two minutes after Kearsney’s second goal; to make the score 2-1 at half-time.
The second half was evenly contested, with Kearsney having many chances to score but unable to convert them. Despite this, however, they still controlled the game. Clifton managed to score a second goal from a short corner in the 59th minute, to level the scores.
It was an exciting and closely contested game between the two teams, with Clifton constantly at Kearsney’s defensive line pushing for a result.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
