Schoolboy Rugby. Kearsney College vs St Charles College – Rugby Season Opener.
The official start of the rugby season saw Kearsney College travel to Pietermaritzburg to face St Charles College.
It took only two minutes for Kearsney’s Tom Aylward to open the scoring, finishing a strong drive from the forwards under the poles. Vice-captain Keanu Williamson added another try in the seventh minute after a slick strike play from the backs, giving the visitors a 12–0 lead.
Kearsney continued to dominate in the first half with highly entertaining, skillful rugby. Lwazi Mbebe bagged a brace, while Sibusiso Khuzwayo and captain Nhlanhla Ndlovu each added a try, taking the halftime score to 34–5.
The second half saw further attacking brilliance from Kearsney, with Ndlovu, James Whatmore, Oliver Ludwig, and Lwandle Mkize all scoring. The visitors ended the match with a commanding 60–19 victory, having scored a total of 10 tries!
Despite the margin, St Charles showed commendable character. Respect to the hosts for fighting to the end with two late tries to finish strongly.
