Schoolboy Cricket. On Saturday, Glenwood High School in Durban hosted Kearsney College in a highly anticipated schoolboy cricket clash in KwaZulu-Natal. Following a nail-biting encounter earlier in the season, expectations were high for another closely fought battle between two evenly matched sides.
Kearsney won the toss and chose to bat first on a pitch that offered little comfort to the batsmen. With bowlers dominating from the outset, no player ever truly settled at the crease. Cole Young stood out as the only batsman to surpass 30 runs. At tea, Kearsney were precariously placed at 90/4.
Glenwood then introduced spinner Kreesan Pillai, who delivered a masterful spell. He also claimed 4 wickets for just 7 runs. His efforts also dismantled the Kearsney lineup, restricting them to a modest total of 128.
In response, Glenwood’s innings got off to a rocky start as Michael Groom struck with his second delivery. Kearsney’s spin duo took control of the game, with Mathew Gorrie leading the charge. Gorrie bowled with precision and control, finishing with figures of 4 for 16 in his 10 overs. Rivan Moodley also supported well, taking 2 for 27 in his full spell.
Despite a spirited late effort from Akhil Maharaj, who scored 20 off 25 balls, Glenwood fell short. They were bowled out for 104, handing Kearsney’s 1st XI a hard-earned 24-run victory.
