School Boy Cricket. Pearson Outplay Peterhouse in Season Opener.
Pearson High School’s 1st XI began their cricket season on a winning note. They claimed first-innings honours in their traditional fixture against Peterhouse Boys in Gqeberha.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Pearson made a brisk start, racing through the first 20 overs. The introduction of spin slowed the momentum, with Peterhouse striking at regular intervals as the pitch began to turn. Still, Pearson posted a competitive 237, thanks mainly to opener Jaundre Van Rooyen’s composed 83 and a rapid 50 from Jean Schultz off just 33 balls.
Peterhouse’s reply faltered immediately, their top order collapsing to 20 for three. A spirited lower-order resistance lifted them to 178, but Pearson’s bowlers kept control throughout. Jaydan Ward was the standout, returning figures of 3 for 14 in seven overs.
Looking to press home their advantage, Pearson batted positively in their second innings. Cale Price’s lively 42 ensured a quick scoring rate as the hosts set up a declaration. That left Peterhouse chasing 124 in 15 overs, a target that proved well beyond reach. They closed on 54 for four, with Dean Morrisey tightening the screws, taking 2 for 13 in four overs.
Pearson’s dominance with both bat and ball secured them victory on the first innings, a confident start to their 2026 campaign.
