School Boy Cricket. 🏏 Match Report – Kingswood College 1st XI vs Pearson High School, Port Elizabeth, School Boy Cricket, 17 January 2026
The Kingswood 1st XI travelled to Port Elizabeth for a declaration match against Pearson. With David Loudon sidelined by a minor injury, Daniel Jakins stepped in as captain. He won the toss and elected to bowl first under overcast skies.
The opening bowlers immediately found rhythm, hitting good lengths and troubling the batters consistently. Josh Cromhout (3 for 14) was outstanding with the new ball, striking early to put Kingswood in control. At tea, Pearson were 73 for 4 after 36 overs, and Kingswood looked well placed.
After the interval, however, Pearson’s batters showed discipline and patience, frustrating the bowlers and steadily accumulating runs. Despite Kingswood’s efforts, further breakthroughs proved elusive. Pearson eventually declared at 208 for 9 after 70 overs, with Jakins leading the attack once again, claiming 4 for 55 in a tireless 28-over spell.
Chasing 209, Kingswood needed a strong start—and the openers delivered. Jakins (40) and Simon Sheard punished anything loose, racing to 37 in just 7 overs. Sheard fell in the 8th over, bringing Chris Zimmerman (25) to the crease. Together with Jakins, he built a promising partnership before a costly run-out halted momentum.
At 89 for 2 after 20 overs, Kingswood were well positioned, but three further run-outs derailed the chase. Despite flashes of intent, the innings closed at 142 all out in 41 overs, leaving Pearson victorious by 66 runs.
