School Boy Cricket – Kearsney College’s Superior Results

School Boy Cricket. Kearsney College vs St Charles College.

On Saturday, 17 January, St Charles College hosted Kearsney College in seamer-friendly conditions and, after winning the toss, elected to bowl first.

The St Charles seamers immediately justified the decision, exploiting the conditions superbly. Ryan Clarke (3/17 in 10 overs) and Jayden Saville (3/21) were outstanding, dismantling the Kearsney top order. Runs were hard to come by, with only Rivan Moodley showing resistance through a composed 40 before falling to leg-spinner Keegan Vermaak. At 91/7, Kearsney looked in deep trouble, but determined lower-order batting dragged them to 139 all out in 46.3 overs.

Chasing a modest target, St Charles began confidently, reaching 29 before losing their first wicket to Daniel Miskey. At 59/1 at the drinks break, the hosts appeared well placed. However, the introduction of Kearsney’s spinners flipped the script. Moodley produced a match-winning spell, claiming 4/30, including the prized wicket of the St Charles captain (recently back from CSA Cubs Week) for 17. He was ably supported by skipper Keegan de Jager (2/15) and Mathew Gorrie (2/23), who tightened the screws.

The chase faltered dramatically, leaving St Charles teetering at 113/9. A spirited last-wicket stand of 17 briefly reignited hopes, but Michael Groom struck to dismiss Kaiyuran Naidoo, sealing a thrilling nine-run victory for Kearsney.

Final Scores

  • Kearsney College: 139 all out (Moodley 40; Clarke 3/17, Saville 3/21, Vermaak 2/24)
  • St Charles College: 130 all out (Prinsloo 27; Moodley 4/30, De Jager 2/15, Gorrie 2/23)

Result: Kearsney College won by 9 runs in a gripping contest that showcased the drama and unpredictability of schoolboy cricket.
