Buffels 1st vs Cathcart 1st Rugby:

They lost 13-15. The Buffels started off strong and controlled possession and the tempo of the rugby game well. Cathcart was defensively up to the task. They drew first blood after poor decision-making on their own try-line and conceded a very soft try.

The Buffels would come back strong and converted a penalty almost right after the kick-off. After strong attacking play the Buffels converted another penalty and the score was in favour of the Buffels during halftime, 6-5.

The second half saw the Cathcart rugby team up the tempo scoring a try early due to a lack of committed defense. After a questionable conversion which was deemed over even thou it looked like it was kicked underneath the crossbar. The Buffels had to chase the game but unforced errors stopped the momentum that was made. Cathcart converted a penalty and the score moved up to 6-15 for Cathcart.

Buffels played hard and eventually scored from relentless pressure through our nr 2, Regard Vorster. He picked up the ball and ran uncontested through the blindside. Kelvin Booysen succeeded with the conversion and the score moved to 13-15 for Cathcart.

The Buffels played some of their best rugby during the last 6 minutes of the game and getting an opportunity in the last seconds with a penalty right in front of the posts. Again the referee and touch judges had the final say in disallowing the conversion saying the kick was too high. That said the Buffels lost the game 13-15. They will be working hard in the next 2 weeks for the Interschool’s match against Burgersdorp.

Points scored were as follows:

  • Try: Regard Vorster
  • Penalties: 2 x Kelvin Booysen and 1 conversion kick by Kelvin Booysen.
