Pineapple Cricket Week. The St Andrew’s College, Grahamstown/ Makhanda, Invitational XI debuted at the Pineapple Cricket Tournament with a 19 run win against Sidbury Cricket Club.
The College XI lost the toss and were sent in to bat by OA Damon Weeks. Rhys Wiblin held the College innings together with a mature and patient 77. The other College batsmen struggled to adjust to the new experience of playing on a woven, mat wicket. The College XI was bowled out for 192 in 42 overs.
1st XI coach, Ethan O’Reilly was very good with the new ball, taking 3 wickets that put Sidbury under early pressure. OA Luke Birrell held the Sidbury innings together with 47, but it was after his dismissal by Andrew Turvey, that Sidbury again found themselves in trouble. Turvey finished with 2/8 in 5 overs, a spell that changed the course of the game.
It was a great game of cricket, and St Andrew’s College look forward to playing Salem Cricket Club in the second game. – Report by Scott Jackson
