Mrs Naidoo has been a part of our staff for over 40 years. She always has a smile on her face and is always willing to help.
She has written a story about her time at GHS, here is an extract from it.
“I came to Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School as a Laboratory Technician in 1976, a job I have been doing for over 40 years now and one that I love. My friend Morgi Pather and I worked together in the Biology (now Life Sciences), Natural Sciences and Physical Sciences Departments.
“I have found my job interesting and stimulating, even though at times it can be quite challenging. I find the science experiments a great deal of fun and love seeing the girls enjoying the practical aspects of science.
During my time at GHS I have been able to witness first-hand the many changes, great and small, that GHS has undergone.
As things changed in our country, communities and at our school, I was excited to be there to see GHS open its doors to learners of colour. GHS has changed with the times but the ethos of the school remains the same. I have seen thousands of girls enter and leave this beautiful school as young women going out into the world.
“When Morgi left in the late 1990s, I worked alone in eight labs and with 13 educators. During the last 40 years I have seen seven Principals and I had the opportunity to work alongside hardworking colleagues, most of them became my good friends. GHS is, and always will be, hugely important in my life. As my final years at GHS approach, I wish GHS all the best in the next hundred years.”
