Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School’s Funk cast had an amazing time performing their 2017 piece entitled ‘And They Have Escaped the Weight of Darkness’. Throughout the process and into the choreography the girls interrogated the relationship between rules and freedom within a political, artistic and humanitarian context. They worked hard through the entire process, from late afternoons after full school days, to working into evenings and even on weekends ensuring they produced an exceptional performance and flying the school flag high at the festival.
