Nashua 7’s Rugby Tournament – St Charles College enters fearless

Nashua Sevens Tournament. Despite the relentless drizzle and sodden fields, St Charles College brought fire and flair to the annual Nashua Sevens Tournament hosted by Maritzburg College. Entering two squads—the U15A and U18A teams—the Saints faced conditions that were anything but ideal for the fast-paced, expansive nature of sevens rugby. Yet, both teams rose to the occasion, showcasing commitment, creativity, and a fearless attacking mindset that lit up an otherwise grey day.

U15A: Redemption and Glory

All eyes were on the U15A squad, a group nursing fresh wounds from two agonizing defeats—first to Hilton in the dying seconds of the St Charles College Sevens, then again at the Glenwood Sevens. But adversity breeds hunger, and these boys arrived at Maritzburg College with one goal: redemption.

Their preparation in the lead-up was intense and purposeful. Training sessions buzzed with energy, and by Thursday, there was an unmistakable sense of belief in the camp. That belief was tested early when they fell narrowly to Maritzburg College in their opening pool match. But true champions respond—not with excuses, but with action.

The U15s regrouped, stormed through the rest of their pool fixtures, and earned a spot in the final—a rematch against the hosts. What followed was a classic: College surged to a 12-0 lead, but the Saints, clad in Blue and Gold, refused to fold. With composure and grit, they clawed back, turning the tide to clinch a 17-12 victory. It was a performance that embodied resilience and heart, and a triumph that crowned them Nashua Sevens Champions.

U18A: Pride in Performance

The U18A team also made their mark, opening with commanding wins over DHS and Maritzburg College to secure their place in the final. There, they faced a powerful Westville side who proved just a step ahead on the day. Though the result didn’t go their way, the U18s played with pride, passion, and unwavering determination. Their runner-up finish was a testament to their quality and character.

Legacy and Gratitude

Both squads left an indelible mark on the tournament, embodying the values of St Charles College rugby: courage, unity, and leaving the jersey in a better place. Their performances were not just about results—they were about setting a standard for those who will follow in 2026.
