On 1 June 2017, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais officiated at the annual Museum Symposium in Cape Town. She handed over ceremonial cheques to the following affiliated province-aided and local museums:

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) is the primary funder of the majority of province-aided museums in the Western Cape, which depend on these funds to keep their doors open to the public.

Minister Marais said: “Our museums play an instrumental role in promoting respect and the understanding of our cultural diversity in the province.” She also thanked all the museum staff for assisting DCAS in sharing the Western Cape story with its diverse museum visitors and stated that their efforts do not go unnoticed.

DCAS invests in the cultural heritage of the province and encourages communities to share in the valuable material at our museums and heritage institutions – BETTER TOGETHER.
