Makhanda Schools’ Cricket Festival. Day 2 highlights.
On Day 2 of the Wildeklawer Makhanda Schools’ Cricket Festival, the St Andrew’s College 1st XI were sent in to bat by St David’s on Lower. Two early wickets created pressure on the College middle order, but a brilliant maiden 1st XI century from Connor Holder, supported by Callum Taggart, David Chorley, and William Stevens, lifted the innings. College declared on 266/6 after 56 overs, setting St David’s a challenging target with 52 overs to survive.
With the ball, Rhys Wiblin impressed with figures of 3/40, while James Badenhorst chipped in with 2/29. Despite sustained pressure, St David’s held firm to secure a draw, finishing on 194/9.
Colts A Match
The Colts A side produced a spirited performance. Luan Dreyer was outstanding with the ball, claiming 7/42 as College bowled St David’s out for 183—a marked improvement on their Day 1 showing.
Batting remained a challenge, however, with College dismissed for 114, Ross Small top-scoring with 32. With time left in the day, St David’s declared their second innings at 49/3, setting College 116 to chase in 16 overs.
Despite a brave effort, College fell short. They lost their final wicket with four overs remaining, unable to force a draw.
