KZN River Canoeing Championships. Kearsney College’s canoeing team showcased grit and determination at the KZN River Canoeing Championships for schools. The championships were held over the weekend on the scenic Tugela River. Hosted by Michaelhouse, the event drew over 70 paddlers from across KwaZulu-Natal, covering a challenging 38km stretch over two days.
In the fiercely contested U18 category, Raine Scoular delivered a commendable performance, securing 8th place. The U16 division saw strong showings from Jack Sternberg, who finished 5th, and Thomas Bishop, close behind in 6th.
The team’s results reflect their growing strength in river racing and their ability to compete among the province’s top junior paddlers. With the Tugela’s swift currents and technical sections testing both endurance and skill, these placements are a testament to the athletes’ preparation and resilience.
