isiXhosa Oratory Competition. Paul Roos Gymnasium, Stellenbosch, and ENSafrica hosted its second annual Masithethe! Teacher’s Workshop on Tuesday 31 January. Entries to the Masithethe! The competition officially opened on the same day.
Home, first and second additional language isiXhosa speakers in high schools are invited to enter the isiXhosa Oratory Competition. Teachers from Westerford High, Grootte Schuur High School, Rhenish Girls’ High, Calling Academy, Paul Roos Gymnasium and a teacher in training at the University of Stellenbosch attended the teachers’ workshop.
The workshop for the competition focused on preparing learners in the art of public speaking in all its various categories. The purpose of the competition is to promote multilingualism in the Western Cape and encourage learners to speak isiXhosa in both official and public spaces. Additional schools who indicated they will be participating this year were Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof, St. Stithians, Makapula Secondary School, and more.
The isiXhosa Oratory competition is now officially open and schools can enter their learners to participate. The 2023 programme will include cultural entertainment items between categories.
