Head Prefect 2025 – Edgemead High school

Head Boy 2025. This year, schoolsthatrock once again chat with the Head leaders of High Schools in South Africa. Today we chat with Aidyn Sullivan, Head Prefect 2025 of Edgemead High School in Cape Town.

“As Head Prefect 2025 of Edgemead High school, I am looking forward to being able to push myself to become a better leader and student. I am also exited for the opportunity to work with people and gain more insight in both school and outside of school through my leadership experiences.

My main goal this year is being able to grow as both a leader, student and person as a whole. I believe that a leader should be well rounded to adapt to any situation they’re put in, so my focus is on self-improvement.

Qualities that stand out

One of the most important qualities that stand out for me from my school is integrity and pursuit of excellence. I have been taught and raised to be a man of my word, so integrity is very important to me. It can show you who a person really is and show the real side of their outlook on their life. Pursuit of excellence is another quality that stands out to me. I believe it’s important to grow and learn, so that one day when the decision comes, you can know what you would like to do with your life. My main goal is to be successful in the things I put my mind to. Furthermore I think reaching for excellence can put me on the right track to success.

One of the most important things that I think should change at Edgemead is the support we get from all sport games. Many of the big sports at school, like hockey, receive a lot of supporters. I think it’s important to create a new culture of support for sport as a whole. I believe it will grow our school and community even further.

When it comes to Edgemead High, the opportunities in sport, culture and academics are a huge part of your school career. One thing that sets us apart from the other schools in the Western Cape are the students. We are lucky enough to have many opportunities and roles we can play within our school. Nothing beats the energy and passion that the students bring to every aspect of all sports, culture and academics. This is why I will persuade anyone to make Edgemead High the school of their choice.

Strongest leadership trait

I think my strongest leadership trait is my ability to listen to others. I strongly believe that a leader is someone who listens to others and uses both their input as well their own when making decisions. Leadership is not a dictatorship and rather the service of one for the needs of the many.

I think one of the most important ways to get collaboration from a team would be to make sure that everyone’s opinions are heard. It’s important that everyone is able to speak their mind. They have to know that their input is valued before making the final decision.

My parents are the people I look up to. My mom is someone who cares a lot about her family. She also, just overall, cares about people’s wellbeing. My dad is the strongest person I know. He’s someone who always puts his own feelings aside and looks after his family first. Overall, they are both the best parents I could ask for. I hope to one day repay everything they’ve done for me.

My favourite dish is Eisbein!

If I were a kitchen article, I’d be a snackwich maker. For no other reason other than it makes a really good, toasted cheese.

Daydreaming

What I am daydreaming about, is my purpose. I often find myself thinking about what God has put me here to do and how I can one day reach my goals. My plan right now is to do the best I can in all the aspects of my life. I have dedicated myself to and just trust the plan God has for my life. I strongly believe that if I put in the work, God will be able to guide me through my life.

My career? I always wanted to be an engineer growing up, but I recently realised that I should look further into all the careers that are out there to make sure that whatever decision I make, I am happy with. My plan right now is to try new things and put myself in positions to grow, so that I can one day make that decision.
