Eastern Cape Rowing – St Andrew’s College

Eastern Cape Rowing. The Rowing Club competed in the Eastern Cape Rowing Association Championships in East London on Saturday, 1 February. They competed against crews mostly from Grey High School and Selborne College. The rowing club performed exceptionally well. They outclassed the opposition in the majority of events entered and emerged as the best performing club on the day.

Highlights include:

● The U14 squad performed well to take on their opposition from Grey and Selborne and emerged as Eastern Cape champions in the U14 Single Scull as well as the U14 Quadruple Sculls. This is an impressive feat in only their second regatta. Cameron Cloete was the winner of the Single Scull. The winning quad was made up of David Clarke, Cameron Cloete, James Parry, Callum van Dyk and Cox: Sibusiso Ngwenya.

Single Sculls

● The U15 squad were impressive as they put in a dominant performance in every boat class entered. They also emerged victorious in the Single Sculls, Double Sculls, A and B Quadruple Sculls as well as the Octuple. Carter Peinke was the winner of the Single Scull. The winning U15A quad was made up of Carter Peinke, Ryder Brooke, Dylan Erasmus, Jeremy Allen and Cox: Eric Wallis. The victorious U15B quad of Thomas Teeling-Smith, Gabriele Cararra, Connor van der Linde and Oliver Kruuse (coxed by Yela Imenda) joined the A quad in the Octuple. They claimed a narrow win over Selborne College.

● Rafael Cararra placed first in the U16 Single Sculls in dominant fashion.

● The Open age group were also dominant. They won the 1st pair, coxed four, coxless four and the first eight. Chris Jarvis and James Jarvis won the pairs event followed by Zac Fletcher and Matthew Theron in second place. The Coxed Four of Joshua Herring, Marcel Llewellyn, Jaryd Mattison, Alex Herbaut and Callum McMurray placed first in their event. The Coxless Four of Chris Jarvis, James Jarvis, Matthew Theron and Zac Fletcher placed first. The First Eight were challenged by crews from Selborne College and University of Fort Hare. They emerged as convincing champions in the blue riband event of the day.
