Head Boy ’24. Like in previous years, School That Rock interviewed Head Leaders of High Schools in South Africa. Today we learn more about Kegoineetsi Majane, Head Boy 2024 from Curro Midrand Sagewood High School
Kegoineetsi, tell us more about yourself and your leadership.
- Many will attest to the fact that I am not always one the most out spoken people in terms of leadership. Rather than always speaking or taking charge, I mainly prefer to hear the opinions of those around me Rather than always speaking or taking charge, I mainly prefer to hear the opinions of those around me, providing help where necessary.
What are your personal goals for this year?
- To witness the various projects of our deputies of sports, culture and academics come to fruition. In this way a change, even a minor one, will be brought to our school. On top of this I do of course have personal goals in terms of academics and sports and choir.
What are your goals for Curro Midrand Sagewood High School for your term of service?
- My goal as Head Boy ’24, is to make the environment better for the learners of our school, especially the grade 8s of this year. They are very anxious and confused about their first year in high school. By showing them the values a Sagewood learner should embody, and leading by example, I wish to inspire respect, fun and participation amongst learners. The goal is to show people that high school is worth it and there’s lots to do and explore. They must just put their heart into it.
Tell us about the biggest challenges you experienced as a learner of your school?
- The true identity of Kegoineetse Majane. My main challenge came in determining who I want to be as well as what role I want to play in the school. This ongoing struggle is one I still attempt to overcome.
What stands out most to you at your school?
- Sagewood is filled with a variety of people with numerous talents. Unfortunately, some lay dormant as they do not always have the confidence to express themselves. However, when they do, it is absolutely outstanding.
Kegoineetsi, who do you look up to for inspiration or mentorship?
- There are many influential people in my life but my father is undoubtedly the most inspirational. In my eyes he is the true embodiment of a man. And the type of man I will also forever strive to be.
You’re a kitchen article? What are you and why?
- I would liken myself to a microwave. Despite my responsibilities, I prefer working with individuals and ensuring they’re warm and in a good space rather than operating with a crowd of mixed individuals. Speaking to a group of people, hearing their opinions and assisting where possible is where I believe I am in my element.
How would your friends describe you?
- Shrew, considerate, humble (hopefully) and passionate.
What motivates you to achieve your goals?
- The expectations I have placed upon myself to be an all-rounder. There are many areas of the school I am involved in, and my drive to excel and perform at a high standard in all of them allows me to endeavour through various trials.
Why would you advise learners to also become part of Curro Midrand Sagewood High School?
- Because it is different. Curro Sagewood has a lot of potential for growth and development. Obviously, as with every school, there are positive and negative aspects. However, with the necessary drive and passion, Sagewood would be capable of acquiring many excellent achievements in various areas. From praise and worship to choir, E-sports to coding, netball to debate and a lot of other fields. The school provides a great chance for growth and development.
Who is your favourite teacher and why?
- There are quite a few teachers who I am very fond of and have built strong relationships. One of those being Mr Motswalo. He is a man who never fails to provide encouragement and guidance whenever I doubt my abilities in either football, academics or leadership. It is difficult to speak about certain issues, however, he is one individual I can truly be transparent and comfortable with. More so then others, he is truly like an uncle at school.
Kegoineetsi, what are your future goals?
- I find great contentment in assisting those who are in need of help. The primary goal is therefore to acquire a medical degree overseas while also making time for hobbies football.
