Head Boy 2024. Like in previous years, Schools That Rock interview Head Leaders of High Schools in South Africa. Today we learn more about Daniel Mulol, Head Boy 2024 from Curro Hazeldean, Pretoria, Gauteng.
Daniel, tell us more about yourself and your leadership.
- My name is Daniel Mulol, I was born in Durban, but have lived in Pretoria for the last 5 years. I enjoy playing and watching sports. My favourite subject is Mathematics. I enjoy traveling and exploring different places. I have been part of the Student Representative Council for the last two years and I’m now the Head Boy of Curro Hazeldean for 2024. I believe leadership is more than a title, it’s about serving people and that is something I enjoy doing.
What are your personal goals for this year?
- My personal goal for the year is to be able to excel in both academics, sports and leadership. I would also like to learn how to better manage my time and be able to have a good balance in my life.
What are your goals for Curro Hazeldean during your term of service?
- As Head Boy 2024 my goal for the school is to impact the learners of Curro Hazeldean and show them that they are able to do anything as long as they put in the work and believe in themselves. I aim to do this by leading by example and also encouraging the students at Curro Hazeldean.
Tell us what were the biggest challenges you experienced as a learner of your school?
- My biggest challenge I experienced as a learner was getting comfortable with the school and the learners at the school, when I joined in grade 8 after lockdown. I tend to be more shy and introverted and that made it difficult for me to become comfortable at school.
Daniel, what stands out most to you at your school?
- The thing that stands out the most to me about Curro Hazeldean, is the fact that it is constantly growing. Not only in numbers but also in academic, sporting and cultural achievements. Each year, as learners, we become prouder of being a “hazie”.
Who do you look up to for inspiration or mentorship?
- I look up to Stephen Curry. His extraordinary skills on the basketball court as well as the way he changed the game of basketball, is something that inspires me.
Daniel, you’re a kitchen article? What are you and why?
- I would be a mixer. Being from a multi-cultural family, I can mix and connect with many different learners at my diverse school.
How would your friends describe you?
- My friends would describe me as friendly, intelligent, sporty, honest, and faithful.
What motivates you to achieve your goals?
- What motivates me to achieve my goals is that I have been given talents and gifts from God. Every time there is an opportunity to use my God-given talents, I need to honour God by achieving what he has called me to achieve.
Why would you advise learners to also become part of Curro Hazeldean?
- Curro Hazeldean is not just a school, but a family. Although we come from many different background and countries, we form one community.
Who is your favourite teacher and why?
- It is very hard to decide on my favourite teacher because there are a few that really stand out for me. However, since maths is my favourite subject, my favourite teacher will be my maths teacher. She has always been very thoughtful, and she has a very nice heart, thinking about the learners further than their marks and what they contribute to the school.
Daniel, what are your future goals?
- My future goal is to be able to contribute in one way or another to make the world a better place. My goal is also to have one or more children and through my experiences, be able to guide them and watch them grow to be better people and more successful than myself.
