Head Boy 2024. Like in previous years, Schools That Rock interview Head Leaders of High Schools in South Africa. Today we also chat with Rebaone Oarabile Madisa, Head Boy 2024 from Curro Academy Riverside in Fourways, Gauteng.
Rebaone, tell us more about yourself and your leadership.
- I am simply a person that desires good and honorable things to happen in school. Thus, I am a firm believer of righteousness, and if possible, I want to lead in such a way that there is peace among our learners and teachers and that we have habits, a culture and image we can be proud of.
What are your personal goals for next year?
- To continue further with my studies and focus full time on chasing the things I’ve longed for a long period of time.
Tell us more about your goals for Curro Academy Riverside for your term of service?
- AS Head Boy, to ensure there’s order in the school and that everyone is comfortable in the environment that they are in both the students and the teachers. No condoning the breaking of rules that may jeopardize the plans we have set as a unit.
What were the biggest challenges you experienced as a learner of Curro Academy Riverside?
- Commitment among learners and students to make our school a much better place. Trying to work as a unit to reach a goal.
Rebaone, tell us what stands out most to you at Curro Academy Riverside?
- Diversity. We have a wide range of personality, ideologies, cultures and talent.
Who do you look up to for inspiration or mentorship?
- My honest answer is that I don’t only have one. This is because I know I can learn anything useful or valuable from anyone I meet.
You’re a kitchen article? What are you and why?
- I would be/ am a mixer. I love to mix and put all things together so I can receive the best possible outcome. It’s a good way of brainstorming and I am not limited to one idea.I try to be open to multiple ideas which at the end will mix up to make the perfect ingredient plan.
How would your friends describe you?
- Calm, loud, energetic, hardworking, humble, but confident, strong, intelligent, has self-control, introspective, honest and ambitious.
What motivates you to achieve your goals?
- My Lord and savior Jesus Christ. He guides and teaches me about my purpose and the gifts I possess if anything, he is the only reason why I would want to achieve my goals. I’m also not where I want to be.
Why would you advise learners to also become part of Curro Academy Riverside?
- You learn how to adapt to the diverse world we live in even though school is only a portion of it.
Who is your favourite teacher and why?
- Mr Mugabazi. He may not be many’s favourite, but I like him. He always tries his best to interact with learners in a way which we are comfortable with. He is funny although he doesn’t try to be. He is timid and calm, I have never seen him angry and even when he is he always has the heart to forgive. He is always willing to give up his time for his learners. He loves sports. He is generous and innocent as an angel.
What are your future goals?
- I have way too many but if I were to put all into one is to simply live everyday effectively, using my time wisely and not trying to take control of the things I inevitably cannot. To go through every phase in life knowing there’s a greater being looking over me always.
