Grant Kennard (Grade 12) rowed at Roodeplaat Dam at the Sa School Rowing Champs the past weekend.
He rowed as Glenwood High School in the Under 19 Open Scull Head race rowing against the top 75 boys in the country from various schools and came 33rd.
This race is where the boys are sent off at intervals and they race against time. Grant is now ranking 33rd in South Africa for sculling, excellent considering this was his second race ever over 2000m and he has only been rowing for 11 months and doing sculling for only 5 months.
In his next race he competed in the Junior Men’s U19 4+/4x + club event rowing under Durban Rowing Club as there was no other Glenwood boys to make up a foursome to allow him to compete in the School race. This team consisted of 3 boys from DHS, Grant (Glenwood High), 1 x cox (DHS), they managed to obtain 3rd place and received a bronze Medal for their achievement.
